Revised Criteria Will Ensure Only The Best Products Are Labelled

The goal of the project is to revise the Ecolabel and GPP criteria based on a life cycle approach and the latest scientific evidence base. Ecolabel is a voluntary label from the European Commission promoting environmental excellence and encouraging the development of new, more sustainable products. Its criteria have been chosen so that only the top 10 to 20% most environmentally friendly products currently on the market can meet them. To ensure that Ecolabel’s selection threshold keeps up with developments, regular revisions of its criteria are necessary. Similarly, GPP’s revised criteria will help member states and public authorities make decisions in procuring environmentally friendly goods and services.

PRé Provides Technical Expertise

For this revision, developments and new insights in environmental, safety, technical, market and functional areas will be taken into account. Moreover, during the development of the revised criteria, Ecolabel and GPP aim for continuous widespread consultation with experts and stakeholders, such as manufacturing, supply chain industry, consumer organizations and NGOs. This will help ensure Europe-wide applicability.

PRé’s contribution to the project will lie mainly in technical analysis. We will perform a literature review to identify environmental hotspots and potential opportunities for improving the sustainability of dishwasher and laundry detergents.
