Product Environmental Footprint: end of pilot phase. What’s next?

Thursday, June 28, 2018
15:00-17:00 CEST | 13:00-15:00 UTC

Currently, more than 400 sustainability labels, schemes and standards are available. So, how can consumers compare two products with different sustainability labels? How can organization clearly communicate its environmental performance when there are so many standards existing?

Because of this huge and confusing landscape, the European Commission (EC) developed and recommended two compatible methods to measure and communicate the life cycle environmental performance of products and organisations. As part of this recommendation, the EC announced a pilot phase aimed at developing and testing the development of Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCRs) and Organisation Environmental Footprint Sector Rules (OEFSRs). It's a set of rules that shall be applied in order to calculate the PEF/OEF profile of a product/organisation.

More than 20 pilots participated in the pilot phase, and now it just finished. So what are the outcomes, which lessons can you learn and, most importantly, how it might impact your organisation? Together with two invited speakers, we will reflect on these topics in a free webinar on June 28, 2018.

What you will learn

  • What are the outcomes of the EF pilot phase
  • What are the differences between traditional LCA and PEF
  • What is the perspective of an active branch association: CEPE case
  • What was motivation of a company to become involved and what is its experience: HEINEKEN case
  • What is the link between PEF and other standardisation initiatives such as EPDs or annual reporting
  • How PEF can be used for communicating sustainability
  • What is the added value of PEF or OEF and how they can be useful to identify business opportunities for your company
  • How PEF may affect your organisation and why you should prepare for it
  • How to become involved

The webinar is carefully prepared for organisations who are curious to find out more about the initiative. After presentations with different perspectives, there will be time for Q&A.
